Terms of Service
Last updated July 1, 2026
These terms cover your use of Walt. We've kept them as plain as we can. By using Walt, you agree to them.
What Walt is
Walt is an AI-assisted household manager for couples and small households. Each member gets a private chat with Walt; he keeps one honest household picture - the money (income, expenses, debts, and what you're saving toward), the plans, and the decisions you're working through - and helps you run the household together.
Walt is not a bank, financial institution, broker, lender, or money transmitter. He doesn't hold or move your money, and he doesn't connect to or pull data from your bank or other financial accounts - you provide the information yourself. Walt organizes what you give him; he can't verify that it's correct, so you're responsible for the accuracy of what you enter.
Walt is not professional advice
Walt is a thinking aid, not a licensed professional. It is not a financial advisor, accountant, tax preparer, lawyer, doctor, contractor, or therapist, and its responses are not professional advice. For decisions that are big or hard to reverse - legal, tax, medical, large investments, structural work - confirm with a qualified professional before you act. You are responsible for the decisions you make.
Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to use Walt. By using it, you confirm that you are.
Your account
- Sign-in is passwordless - keep access to your email secure, since anyone with your inbox can request a sign-in link.
- You're responsible for activity that happens under your account.
- Tell us promptly at hello@dearwalt.com if you think your account has been accessed without your permission.
Households and member access
Walt is built for the people who run a household together - a couple, a family, sometimes friends - so it helps to know how visibility works:
- You can start on your own and invite the others later with an invite code.
- Each member has a private chat with Walt; the messages in your private thread aren't shown to the other members.
- Walt maintains one shared household picture that every member can see.
- To keep that picture honest, Walt reconciles each chat into shared artifacts every member can open: the shared household picture, a per-chat picture of that conversation, and any files you upload (with the summary Walt extracts from them). So anything you upload, and the reconciled chat picture, is visible to the other members of your household even though your raw messages are not.
- As you talk to Walt, he automatically brings household-level facts - money facts like income, expenses, accounts, and debts; firm joint decisions; household-level goals; standing arrangements such as who handles what; household members you describe, like kids or pets; and dates that shape the household's year - from your private chat into the shared picture. That promotion is part of how Walt keeps the picture honest; it isn't a manual step you take each time.
- When you invite someone, you grant them access to your household's shared picture.
Don't invite someone to a household, or upload another person's personal or financial information, without their knowledge and permission.
Documents and AI processing
You can upload household documents (for example PDFs, images, or CSVs) - a financial statement, a contractor's quote, an itinerary, a school or medical form - and Walt will read them to pull the key facts into your picture. To do this - and to generate Walt's replies - the relevant content is processed by our AI providers, as described in our Privacy Policy. By using Walt, you consent to that processing.
Acceptable use
When using Walt, you agree not to:
- break the law or use Walt to harm, harass, or deceive others;
- upload content you don't have the right to share, or anyone else's personal information without a proper basis;
- attempt to access accounts, data, or systems that aren't yours;
- probe, scrape, overload, reverse-engineer, or disrupt the service; or
- resell or commercially exploit Walt without our written permission.
Your content
You keep ownership of the content you create in Walt. You grant us a limited license to host, process, and transmit that content solely to operate and improve the service for you - including sending the relevant parts to the AI providers that generate Walt's replies and reconciled picture. We don't claim ownership of your content, and we handle it as described in our Privacy Policy.
AI output
Walt's responses are generated by AI and may be incomplete or incorrect. Don't rely on them as the sole basis for a decision - review anything important, and verify figures and facts yourself.
Availability and changes
Walt is offered as-is and is currently in beta. We may add, change, or remove features, and we may suspend or discontinue the service. We'll try to give reasonable notice of significant changes, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted availability.
Termination
You can stop using Walt at any time and delete your account from your profile settings. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms or to protect Walt or the people who use it. If your account ends, the parts of these terms that should reasonably outlast it - the disclaimers, assumption of risk, and limitation of liability - still apply.
Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Walt is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
Assumption of risk
No software or online service is completely secure, and providing personal and financial information to any online service carries inherent risk. We use reasonable measures designed to protect your information - described in our Privacy Policy - but we can't and don't guarantee absolute security. You choose to use Walt, and to provide the information you provide, with that understanding and at your own risk.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Walt and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from decisions you make using the service.
Where liability can't be disclaimed, our total liability for any claim relating to Walt is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the service in the 12 months before the claim, or US $100. Some places don't allow these limits, so parts of this may not apply to you.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes relating to Walt will be handled by the state or federal courts located in San Francisco, California, except where the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim closer to home.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we'll update the date above. Your continued use of Walt after a change means you accept the updated terms.
